Dear Friends:

It is my honor and privilege to represent you as your State Representative for House District 3.  Your input was, and continues to be, invaluable.

At the beginning of the session I was appointed to serve as a member of the House Committee on Appropriations; the Appropriations Subcommittee on Articles VI, VII, & VIII, which oversees natural resources, business and economic development, and regulatory agencies; and the House Committee on Economic Development & Small Business. This past session, of the 5,868 bills filed during the Regular Session, 1,437 were sent to the governor. To learn about particular pieces of legislation, please visit

The Texas Legislature addressed an array of issues from funding the State Water Plan to improving opportunities for our disabled military veterans seeking to qualify as a historically underutilized business for state contracting. To better protect resources for those in need, we implemented drug screening for individuals receiving unemployment benefits. Texans of all ages will benefit when public universities and colleges begin offering a fixed tuition price plan to undergraduate students in the fall of 2014.

During the Regular Session, I successfully carried 16 bills, including ones designed to improve dual credit access to career and technology courses; ensured Prairie View A&M University's eligibility to participate in the state's research development fund; provided liability protection to volunteers during times of man-made or natural disaster; protected employers’ unemployment tax accounts from chargebacks associated with unemployment benefits paid to former employees who left for reasons that are "urgent, compelling, and necessary"; addressed restrictive proficiency requirements for concealed handgun license holders by removing the revolver category; and other significant pieces of legislation.

Please check back with us soon when we launch our new web page July 2013. I look forward to your continued input and support in tackling the various issues that affect our community and our state as a whole. As always, please contact my office if you ever need assistance.
